Jonas Fischer is an illustrator and graphic designer at the Institute for the History and Ethics of Medicine at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). He works for the DFG project »Advancing health data justice: A comparative study of health-related data governance in Canada, Germany, and the United Kingdom« (ADJUST).
Jonas has worked as a freelance illustrator, graphic designer, and artist for various science and culture institutions, such as Archäologische Landesamt Schleswig-Holstein, Institut für Kunst-, Design- und Medienwissenschaften der Muthesius Kunsthochschule Kiel, Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg and Stadtgalerie Kiel.
His work has led him to the most curious places, like the Republic of Moldova, the Amazon rainforest, Otterndorf and Brunsbüttel on the river Elbe, and, most recently, to Riga, Latvia.
Jonas studied Communication Design at Muthesius Kunsthochschule Kiel. His studies included illustration and graphic novel, typography and book design, type design, and language and form.
His final BA project, a graphic novel titled »Boje« was published by Jaja Verlag Berlin in 2020. His final MA project, »Toxic – A Tour of the Ecuadorian Amazon«, with Dr. Amelia Fiske, was published by the University of Toronto Press in 2024. The German edition titled »Toxic« was published by Jaja Verlag Berlin in 2025.
